Easy MLM
Clint Maki explains why this article is titled EASY MLM, not EFFORTLESS MLM.
All businesses take effort.
That means you will need to do something that makes you uncomfortable in some way. If you are not willing to do the unusual, you will
get common results in your life. If you are seeking common results, then just keep doing what you are doing, you will keep getting what you are getting and no further effort is required.
I know a lot of people will accuse me of being brutal on that point, but it’s true. Professionals in online and offline marketing are just plain sick and tired of people bashing Relationship Marketing when those very critics have either never tried Network Marketing or, worse yet, signed up for one and did absolutely NOTHING for themselves and then quit. These people are one common thread in the subculture of mediocrity. Sick.
If you want to succeed at Network Marketing, or ANY Self Employment venue, keep it simple. It’s really NOT rocket science. Here are the easy steps. Exert a small amount of precise and targeted effort each day and you will succeed.
1.) Have a written plan: A simple to do list. Pattern it according to this list if you like, but write it down on paper EACH DAY in your hand writing.
2.) Have a written contact list. Keep growing that list daily. Put it in a spread sheet or on paper. Whatever, but have a running list and add someone to it every day. Don’t judge or qualify. The only time you should not add someone is if you HATE them so bad that you want to PUNCH them every time you see them. Add people that are successful and driven to succeed. Add everyone.
3.) Write a note to someone you like every day. Mention NOTHING about your business. Encourage them. Say hello. Just be nice. Keep it brief and sincere. I use Send Out Cards for this task. (Here is a link explaining the SOC http://clintmaki.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=470&action=edit&message=10 ) It is easy and personal and once in a while I send a small gift when appropriate. A lot of people have accomplished something in the community and I use it as an occasion to spread good will with a short note.
Easy, affordable and effective, but not a manipulation.
4.) Approach AT LEAST ONE new person daily. More is better, but ONE is bare minimum. Do this online or offline. Have a dialogue
written and rehearsed. Here is what I use with new people:
Hi, _______. I was just wondering something. If I could show you a way to earn an additional income stream, without interfering with what you already have going on, would you want to take a look at it?
-OR-
If you have approached them with a business in the past and they did not join you…
Hi, _____ I know you have seen me investigate several different businesses in the past, so I am sure you won’t be surprised that I have finally found one that suits me. If I could show you a way to earn an additional income stream, without interfering with what you already have going on, would you want to take a look at it?
NOTE: DO NOT tell people all about your company, products, compensation plan, etc in this stage of the process. You are simply sorting them out for interest level. Don’t spew a bunch of details and NEVER, EVER try to convince someone they should be interested when they don’t want to be interested. Save your time for someone who shows signs of entrepreneurial life.
5.) Inform one or more people daily. When you get people sorted out for interest level, then you can present your idea to them. If you
are not sure how to do it, then ask for someone upline from you to help you out. Face to face over coffee is best, but when geography or time won’t permit a “belly to belly” meeting I use three way calls and group Skype calls for this. Leverage your time and resources.
6.) Follow up with people that don’t outright say ‘No”. It will take 5-7 follow up meetings to get someone in. be persistent, but
professional. Research the art of the follow up for MLM. It’s a science all by itself.
7.) Help someone get started. Sign them up or help them repeat the process above.
8.) Read and listen to books, personal development and business related materials. This is where a lot of people drop the “proverbial”
ball. Your results in life are a direct reflection of your personal development so far. Are you getting the results financially, relationally and spiritually that you always dreamed you would have? I doubt it. Daily read and study. Shut off the TV and get busy.
I know this seems too easy. It really is that easy. The biggest hurdle you will need to navigate if your own fears. I will write of this obstacle in another post.

Hi Clint, I gotta say that this article really sums up what is necessary to get going. I read a quote today: “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” Leonardo da Vinci. The simpler the system, easier the habit. Thanks for sharing.
